In the months leading up to your expedition, we lay the foundations for an unforgettable adventure. From the moment you join us, you’ll be introduced to your expedition leader and provided with all the guidance and support you need to prepare for the journey ahead.

You’ll also be added to a dedicated WhatsApp group chat, allowing you to connect with your teammates, ask questions, build confidence, and start understanding how things will unfold. By the time you land in-country, you’ll already know your team, and we’ll be an expedition running with momentum.

This phase is about getting ready: from packing lists to physical training, setting the stage for a seamless and enriching expedition experience.

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,324 m)

Our representative will be waiting at the Tribhuwan International Airport. On arrival you’ll be transferred to the hotel in private vehicle.

Day 2

Kathmandu to Patale (2800 m)

Today early morning at 0600 hrs we set off on an exhilarating drive from Kathmandu to Patale, located at 2,800 meters. This scenic journey takes approximately 12 to 14 hours by our reserved vehicle. On the way we stop for quick refreshment at Himalayan Horizon, Dhulikhel. After a cup of warm coffee we continue our drive. After driving for about 7 hrs we reach Patale Bazzar. The distance from Kathmandu to Patale is about 250 kms. We drive through the BP highway following the Sunkoshi River Valley and ascend a hilly road from Ghurmi then a twisting road to Patale Bazzar (2800 m) where we shall stay for overnight.

Day 3

Patale to Kharikhola (2135 m)

Today after breakfast we start our drive at 0730 hrs looking at a panoramic view of Mt. Everest and its neighbouring summits. After driving on a rough and mixed paved road for approximately 6 hrs we reach Salleri where we stop for our lunch. From Salleri drive through Pine forest and terraced fields to Taksindo Pass then down to Nunthala and Jubing then diagonally drive up towards Kharikhola. The road distance from Salleri to Kharikhola is approximately 18.4 kms. The drive typically takes 4 to 5 hrs in unpaved and bumpy off-road drive thus it may take a bit longer depending on a road condition.

Day 4

Day 04: Kharikhola to Sibuje (3040 m):

Karikhola is a village that the Hilary expedition, along with many other expeditions, passed through. You can see Numbur and other neighboring peaks from here. After an early breakfast we start our trek from Kharikhola. We ascend steadily through a forest and in about 3 hours we arrive at Pangom (3825 m) where we stop for our well deserved rest and lunch. After lunch we shall continue our trek towards Shibuje. We’ll cross through a rhododendron forest to get to Pangom Pass at 3285m continuing to the exotic backdrop of the village of Shibuje. Shibuje is a trekking destination that is either from Lukla or Phaplu to Mera Peak. It is not uncommon to come across mountaineers on their way to their ascent. We will see a view of the summit of Mera which is 6461 m above sea level. Lastly, our journey will conclude with a visit to the small Sherpa museum and spend the night in a lodge.

Day 5

Shibuje to Chattre Khola (2800 m): 7 hrs walk

From here we get extraordinary views of Mera Peak and Salpa. After ascending and descending on our trail, we enter the Makalu Barun National Park. Our trail from here to Chhatra Khola is called Pasang Lhamu trail. On the way, if we are lucky, we might even come across the elusive Red Panda. Overnight in Chhatra Khola.

Day 6

Chattre Khola to Kothe (3691 m): 6-7 hrs walk

We walk towards the north on the main trail to Mera Peak. After walking on a trail next to the the Majang Khola, we merge with another trail which moves alongside the Hinku Khola. Our trail moves straight ahead towards Tashing Ongma which has seasonal tea shops. We continue our trek and cross the bridge over the Sanu Khola before reaching Kothe. Overnight in Kothe.

Day 7

Kothe to Thaknak (4,358m): 3-4 hrs walk

We trek along the ridge of the Hinku Khola in the shadow of Mera Peak. We take lunch at Gondishung, the summer herders' settlement in the west bank of the Hinku Drangka. Beyond Gondishung, we pass a 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa where we can find Mera Peak scripted in rock along with its route to reach Mera. A short walk takes us to Thaknak, which is a summer grazing area with primitive lodges and shops. Overnight in Thaknak.

Day 8

Thaknak to Khare (5,045m): 4 hrs walk

Leaving Thaknak, we follow the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Kharka, which offers spectacular views of Charpate Himal. The trail climbs through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar glaciers, and then climbs more steeply to Khare. From here, we can see the northern face of Mera Peak which will be an amazing experience. After lunch we can hike in and around Khare. Overnight at Khare.

Day 9

Khare: Acclimatization and pre–climb training

We have a separate day set aside solely for acclimatization and basic training just to prepare ourselves better for the Mera Peak climb. Our climbing leader will help us polish our basic climbing techniques and demonstrate the best ways to use our climbing gears like the ice axe, harness, ascender climbing boots and crampons. The training will also include learning the best climbing technique with the rope. Overnight in Khare.

Day 10

Khare to Mera High Camp (5,780m): 6-7 hrs walk

We walk through a boulder-strewn course on a steep trail to reach the Mera Peak Base Camp. From here, we continue further through the Mera La pass to reach the Mera High Camp. Our path is along a rocky trail, which can be hazardous if it has recently snowed, as there are a number of crevasses here. We make our way to the top of the rock band, which is marked by a large cairn. Then we set up a high camp while enjoying excellent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang and Baruntse. Overnight at Mera High Camp.

Day 11

Mera High Camp to Summit (6,461m) and back to Khare (5045m): 8-9 hrs walk

This is a really important day for the expedition. We wake up around 2 in the morning for breakfast. It’s going to be very cold in the beginning but soon we warm up as we continue up the glacier and onto a peculiar ridge. The first rays of the sun hit the big peaks in an amazing red glow. The route is still non-technical as we slowly climb higher into the ever-thinning air. The slope steepens for a section behind the ridge and the summit comes back into view. At the foot of the final steep summit cone, we may use a fixed rope if the climbing leader believes it’s required. The summit is only a few meters away. From the summit, we take in spectacular views of the mighty Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Cho-Oyu (8,210m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Kangchenjunga (8,586m), Nuptse (7,855m), Chamlang (7,319m), Baruntse (7 ,129m) and others. Later, we retrace our steps back to the high camp where we rest for a while before descending to Khare. Overnight in Khare.

Day 12

Khare to Kothe (3600m): 4-5 hrs walk

We trek from Khare to Kothe along the same trail used previously. After reaching Kothe, we celebrate our success by trying out local delicacies and wines. Overnight in Kothe.

Day 13

Kothe to Thuli Kharka (4,300 m): 5-6 hrs walk

We begin our trek to Thuli Kharka after breakfast. We climb up and descend, cross several tributaries of the Inkhu Khola before reaching a forked trail nearby Taktho. We choose the trail on our right and continue walking. Our trail passes by a Chorten after which we walk downhill on a steep trail. Next, we ascend to Thuli Kharka and pass by another Chorten on the way. Overnight in Thuli Kharka.

Day 14

Thuli Kharla to Lukla (2600 m) via Zatrawala Pass (4550 m): 6-7 hrs walk

We cross the Zatrwa-La pass at 4,600. As soon as we cross the pass, we are welcomed by the sight of the beautiful Lukla Valley which is surrounded by Cho Oyu, Kongde Peak, Numbur Himal, Kusum Khangru and other Himalayan peaks. From Zatrwa La pass we walk all the way down to Chutang and then straight forward to the Lukla village. In the evening we enjoy dinner in the Himalayas of Nepal with our crew. Overnight in Lukla.

Day 15

Fly to Manthali then drive to Kathmandu

After an early breakfast, you’ll board a short yet memorable flight to Ramechhap—your final chance to admire the grandeur of the Himalayas from the sky. As the snow-capped peaks fade into the distance, the flight becomes a fitting farewell to Nepal’s awe-inspiring mountain scenery.

Upon arrival in Ramechhap, you’ll continue your journey by road, heading back to the vibrant capital city of Kathmandu. The contrast between the peaceful trekking trails and the city’s lively streets will be instantly felt as you re-enter the urban rhythm.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Whether you choose to relax and recharge, or wander through Thamel’s bustling lanes in search of souvenirs, this time is perfect for reflecting on your accomplishment. From handcrafted gifts to unique local treasures, Kathmandu offers a rich tapestry of choices to commemorate your Himalayan adventure.

Day 16

Kathmandu Rest day and Sightseeing of Swayambhu and Patan

Begin your day with a visit to the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa, perched atop a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, often called the Monkey Temple, is one of Nepal’s oldest and most revered spiritual landmarks.

As you ascend the stone steps, you'll pass fluttering prayer flags, playful monkeys, and panoramic views that stretch across the valley. At the top, the gleaming white dome and golden spire of the stupa rise above a harmonious mix of Hindu and Buddhist shrines. Spin prayer wheels, listen to the chants of pilgrims, and take a quiet moment to soak in the spiritual energy of this sacred site.

After Swayambhu, journey to Patan, also known as Lalitpur, the "City of Fine Arts." Patan Durbar Square is a masterpiece of Newar architecture, filled with intricately carved wooden temples, royal courtyards, and centuries-old stone statues.

Explore highlights like the Krishna Mandir, Hiranya Varna Mahavihar (Golden Temple), and the beautifully preserved Patan Museum, which offers deep insights into the valley’s artistic and spiritual traditions. The streets around the square are alive with artisans, metalworkers, and traditional shops—perfect for discovering handmade crafts and unique souvenirs. In the evening we shall enjoy our last meal in Kathmandu celebrating our successful completion of this expedition.

Day 17

Depart Nepal

One final breakfast to mark the end of a remarkable trip and then head back to the airport, or continue your adventure in Nepal.

Difficulty

Mera Peak is a genuine physical challenge, but one that’s well within reach for those with good fitness and a positive attitude. While the summit stands at 6,476 metres, the route itself is non-technical — meaning you don’t need any prior climbing experience to take part.

The itinerary has been carefully designed to give you the best possible chance of success, with a gradual pace, plenty of time to acclimatise, and a full day set aside for pre-climb training. You'll learn how to use basic equipment like crampons and an ice axe in a safe, supportive environment.

Most days involve 4–7 hours of trekking with regular breaks and overnight stays in comfortable lodges. You'll be supported every step of the way by a highly experienced UK expedition leader and our trusted Nepali guiding team — many of whom have summited Mera dozens of times.

If you’ve done multi-day treks before, have reasonable cardiovascular fitness, and are excited by the idea of pushing yourself in the mountains, you’ll be in exactly the right place. And if you’re ever unsure — just reach out. We’re here to help you prepare and succeed.

Food

You’ll be well fed throughout the expedition with tasty, energy-rich meals that keep you going at altitude. All meals are included from the start of the trek to the return to Lukla, and we’ll eat at a mix of local teahouses and our own high camp kitchen.

In the teahouses, you’ll find a reliable selection of Nepali and international trekking staples: dal bhat (lentil curry with rice), noodles, pasta, fried rice, soups, momos (dumplings), and pancakes. Breakfasts often include porridge, toast, eggs, and tea or coffee. It’s simple food, made fresh, and it does the job well.

At high camp, our climbing team prepares hot, nourishing meals to keep you fuelled before and after summit day — with warm drinks and plenty of encouragement.

We can cater for most dietary requirements — just let us know in advance. Snacks aren’t included, so we recommend bringing your favourites from home (things like energy bars, trail mix, or sweets are great at altitude).

Accomodation

Throughout the expedition, your accommodation is simple, sociable, and well-suited to the environment — from bustling Kathmandu hotels to remote mountain lodges and one memorable night under canvas at high camp.

In Kathmandu, you’ll stay in a comfortable 3-star hotel on a bed & breakfast basis, close to the heart of the city. It’s a great place to recover from travel and meet your team before heading into the mountains.

During the trek, we’ll stay in local teahouse lodges, basic but welcoming guesthouses dotted along the trail. Rooms are usually twin-share with simple beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms. Some places have electricity for charging and hot showers (usually at a small extra cost). Meals are served in warm communal dining rooms, a great chance to relax, chat, and refuel.

At Mera High Camp, we’ll spend one night in tents just below 5,800m, surrounded by glaciers and some of the most spectacular mountain views on Earth. All camping gear is provided, and our support crew will cook hot meals and keep things running smoothly.

We’ll loan you a down sleeping bag and warm jacket, so you’ll stay cosy even at altitude, and if you have any questions about what to pack, we’re always here to help.

Getting There

International flights aren’t included in your booking, but we’ll recommend affordable, efficient options to get you to the right place at the right time. We’ll usually suggest a specific flight—often the one your expedition leader is on—and most of the team will be on the same one unless arriving early.

You’ll fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), ideally arriving on Day 1 (the day before we meet as a group). Day 2 is the official start of the expedition, when your Crux expedition leader will greet you at the hotel, run the initial briefing, and get everything underway.

Once booked, you’ll get access to your Crux portal, which includes flight advice, arrival instructions, and a private forum to coordinate with your teammates. There's also a WhatsApp group, where you can chat with the leader and others, ideal if you'd like to meet before departure or even fly in together.

FAQ's

Do I need previous climbing experience?

Not at all. Mera Peak is a trekking peak, which means it’s physically demanding but not technically difficult. You won’t be climbing with ropes or tackling exposed rock. Instead, you’ll be walking on snow and ice near the summit, using crampons and an ice axe — all of which we’ll teach you how to use during the expedition. If you’ve never climbed before but you’re up for a challenge and willing to learn, you’ll be in good hands.

How fit do I need to be?

You don’t need to be a mountaineer or endurance athlete — but you do need a good base level of fitness and a sense of determination. You’ll be trekking for multiple days at altitude, often for 5–7 hours at a time. If you enjoy long days in the hills, can hike with a small pack, and have the mindset to keep going when it gets tough, you’re more than capable of taking this on. Many people say this is the hardest thing they’ve ever done — and also the most rewarding.

What’s the altitude like?

Altitude is a major part of this expedition, with the summit standing at 6,476 metres. The good news? Our route has been carefully designed for gradual acclimatisation. You’ll gain height slowly, take a rest day with pre-climb training at 5,045m, and your team is experienced in spotting and managing the signs of altitude sickness early. You’ll never be rushed — we move at the pace that gives you the best possible chance of success.

What support will I have?

You’ll be supported every step of the way by an experienced UK expedition leader and a brilliant Nepali guide and porter team — many of whom have summited Mera countless times. They know the terrain, the weather patterns, the culture, and the risks — and they’re there to help you thrive. You'll also have porter support throughout, so you're only carrying a light daypack. This is a fully guided, fully supported expedition — you won’t be doing this alone.

Is it safe?

As with any mountain expedition, there are risks — but everything about this trip has been designed to manage them. Your guides are trained in high-altitude response and wilderness first aid, the route is paced for acclimatisation, and we carry a group medical kit throughout. We monitor weather and conditions closely, and always put team welfare first. Mera Peak is challenging but well within reach when done properly — and that’s exactly how we do it.

Will I need to carry my own gear?

No — your main expedition kit will be carried by porters, so you’ll just carry a daypack with water, snacks, a few layers, and personal essentials. You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to enjoy the landscape and stay energised when you’re travelling light.

What’s the accommodation like?

In Kathmandu, you'll stay in a welcoming 3-star hotel in the heart of the city. On the trek, we stay in rustic but friendly teahouse lodges, where rooms are simple, meals are hearty, and the views are unbeatable. At high camp, we sleep in expedition tents under the stars — a truly memorable night at the edge of the glacier. We also provide you with a down sleeping bag and jacket, so you’ll stay warm and comfortable even when temperatures drop.

What if I want to arrive early or stay later?

That’s easy — we can arrange extra nights in our partner hotel in Kathmandu if you’d like more time to explore, recover, or adjust to the time zone. You’ll be able to select this option during the booking process.

Can I join solo?

Absolutely. In fact, many of our participants do. Whether you’re coming on your own or with a friend, you’ll be joining a supportive team of like-minded adventurers — and by the time you reach the summit (or the first teahouse), you’ll have bonded over shared goals, challenges, and the incredible landscape around you.
