Protecting the Planet

We don’t just love wild places — we fight to protect them.

Carbon Negative — Always

Responsible travel, done properly, for people and for the planet. No Greenwashing. Just Real Action. We don’t make vague promises about sustainability. We do the work, and back it with action.

Every Crux expedition is carbon negative, achieved through our partnership with Ecologi. We offset more carbon than we produce, including flights, internal travel, and the expedition itself, with verified climate projects that actually make a difference.

This isn’t an optional extra or something you pay for. We fund it directly from our own profits, because we believe it’s part of doing things properly.

Want to go even further? You’ll have the option to add your own carbon offset contribution at checkout, but you’ll never be pressured to.

What Carbon Negative Really Means

Most companies aim for “carbon neutral”. We go a step further.

Our offsetting covers the full carbon footprint of your expedition, from your international flight to the meals you eat on the trail. Then we offset more than that.

We invest in high-quality, independently verified projects through Ecologi, including reforestation, renewable energy, and carbon removal schemes. These are Gold Standard or VCS-certified, meaning their impact is measurable, transparent, and scientifically credible.

This isn’t a vague promise to “plant a tree someday”. It’s direct action, backed by data.

Smarter Logistics, Smaller Footprint

We look at every stage of your expedition and ask: can we do this more sustainably? Often, we can.

That might mean:

  • Taking overland routes instead of internal flights

  • Staying in low-impact or locally owned accommodation

  • Eating locally sourced food

  • Reducing vehicle use by combining transfers or walking more where possible

Where we can’t avoid an impact, we offset it. But we don’t use offsetting as an excuse not to improve.

No Rubbish Policies — Literally

We take Leave No Trace seriously. That means:

  • No single-use plastics in our group kit

  • All waste carried out or disposed of responsibly

  • Campsites treated with respect and left better than we found them

  • Human waste managed according to local best practice

  • Wildlife, water sources and protected areas left undisturbed

Every expedition leader is trained to uphold these standards, and to take action if group behaviour puts the environment at risk.

Training Our Leaders to Lead by Example

Environmental responsibility isn’t just a checklist — it’s a mindset.

That’s why every Crux leader is trained in our environmental policy, and expected to champion it in the field. They brief groups on eco practices, guide decisions on the ground, and help travellers understand the impact of their choices.

If something isn’t right — they step in. Because protecting wild places starts with the people walking through them.

Why It Matters

Because the places we explore are under threat — from rising temperatures, plastic pollution, deforestation, and careless tourism.

Because the world doesn’t need more companies pretending to be sustainable. It needs companies that are willing to be accountable.

And because we’re not here to take from nature.
We’re here to adventure with it — and for it.

Crux Expeditions. Travel done properly, with the planet in mind.
