Health & safety

Not just risk assessed — risk managed.

Experienced Leadership in the Field

Every expedition is led by someone who’s been there before. Someone who’s made tough calls in remote places and knows how to lead when plans change.

Our UK-based expedition leaders are hand-picked for their calm judgement and operational competence, not just their ability to tie knots and follow trails. All are trained in expedition first aid and crisis response, and many hold additional qualifications in outdoor leadership, altitude safety, and rescue procedures.

They’re not just there to walk at the front. They’re there to manage the situation, whether that’s a sprained ankle, a change in political climate, or a sudden storm front rolling in.

They’re supported at all times by our 24/7 UK operations team, ready to advise, escalate, or intervene if anything requires external assistance.

Local Knowledge, Local Response

We work with trusted in-country partners who know the terrain, the language, the infrastructure, and the emergency services. In most locations, they’ve been working with us for years.

From securing permits and checking vehicle safety to confirming evacuation options and coordinating with local authorities — their input is invaluable. And because they live there, they’re often the first to know if something changes.

We treat our local teams as equal partners in keeping you safe — not just as background logistics.

Medical & Emergency Preparedness

Every expedition includes a comprehensive medical plan tailored to the route, environment, and local conditions. That includes:

  • A trained first aider in the leadership team

  • A fully stocked medical kit, appropriate to the expedition environment

  • Emergency communication devices (sat phones, Garmin inReach, and local sim cards)

  • Pre-established evacuation routes and medical facility contacts

  • Access to our UK support team at all times

Your leader is briefed on your medical needs, dietary restrictions, and relevant history, and will regularly monitor the health and wellbeing of the group throughout the trip.

In the event of an emergency, we act quickly, decisively, and with full support from home.

Risk Assessments That Actually Mean Something

We don’t file risk assessments just to tick a box. We use them to make decisions.

Every trip is risk assessed from top to bottom, and not just once. Conditions change. Countries change. Group dynamics change. So we regularly review, update, and adapt our plans. That includes:

  • Vetting accommodation and transport providers

  • Identifying key medical and security risks in each region

  • Scenario planning for illness, injury, evacuation, political unrest or natural hazards

  • Real-time tracking of the group when possible

If something changes, we change the plan. We never press ahead for the sake of sticking to the schedule.

Before You Travel

Good safety starts before you even pack a bag.

We provide detailed pre-departure information, including:

  • Health and vaccination advice

  • Kit recommendations based on climate and activity

  • Cultural guidance that helps avoid risky misunderstandings

  • Tips for managing fatigue, dehydration, altitude, and hygiene in remote environments

On many trips, you’ll also take part in a UK-based training weekend, where we run through key skills and safety practices in advance.

We’d rather prevent problems than react to them.

Why It Matters

Because when you’re in the middle of nowhere, you need to know that someone’s thought things through.

Because real safety isn’t about being cautious, it’s about being prepared.

Because confidence comes from knowing your leader can handle the unexpected, your team is well briefed, and there’s a plan if something goes wrong.

That’s what we provide.
No drama. No overpromising. Just proper safety, built in from the start.
