About Crux Expeditions

Who are Crux Expeditions?
Crux Expeditions is the adventure travel brand of Crux Outdoors Ltd (Registered in Scotland, SC726038). We design and deliver land-only expeditions around the world — bringing together solo travellers, private groups, charities, and organisations for unforgettable adventures.

How experienced are you?
Our team has led expeditions on six continents — from the Himalayas and Andes to the Arctic Circle, Sahara Desert, Amazon jungle, and African mountains. We also come from a background in risk management and consultancy (via Crux Outdoors), supporting film, TV, and organisations worldwide. You’ll always be in safe, experienced, and well-connected hands.

I’m not based in the UK — can I still join an expedition?

Yes — absolutely! While Crux Expeditions is a UK-registered company, our expeditions are open to clients from all over the world. You don’t need to be UK-based to take part.

Like everyone else, you'll need to make your own way to the expedition start point (as our packages are land-only and don’t include international flights). From there, everything is arranged — leadership, logistics, permits, meals, accommodation, and in-country transfers.

We’ve already welcomed adventurers from Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and beyond — so wherever you’re travelling from, you’ll be in good company.

Booking & Payments

How do I book an expedition?
Each expedition page has a booking calendar where you can secure your place. Solo travellers can book direct, while groups and charities should contact us via the enquiry form.

Do I have to pay in full at the time of booking?
No. You can:

  • Pay in full and save a little on the overall cost, or

  • Pay a non-refundable deposit and spread the rest in instalments.

Are my payments safe?
Yes. All funds are protected under our financial protection insurance, ensuring your money is secure in line with the UK Package Travel Regulations.

Can I get a discount?
Yes — we reward group organisers:

  • Gather 5–7 people → 25% off your place

  • Gather 7–9 people → 50% off your place

  • Gather 10+ → your place is free

Charities and corporate teams also benefit from reduced per-head rates.

Group Types

I’m a solo traveller — is this for me?
Absolutely. Most of our clients join solo and meet their team on expedition. We also host training weekends in the UK so you can meet your group and leader before departure.

Can we book as a private group?
Yes. Friends, sports clubs, adventure challenge teams, or corporates can book an entire expedition with exclusive rates.

Do you work with charities?
Yes — expeditions can be run as fundraising challenges, making them ideal for headline charity events.

Do you run school or youth trips?
No — our focus is on adults (18+) booking either as individuals, groups, charities, or corporates.

Insurance, Safety & Risk

Do I need insurance?
Yes — comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. It must cover:

  • Emergency medical expenses

  • Evacuation (including helicopter rescue if relevant)

  • Trekking/climbing to the maximum altitude of your expedition (e.g. 6,500m for Mera Peak)

  • Repatriation to your home country

Is it safe?
Adventure travel always carries risks, but we mitigate them through:

  • Experienced UK expedition leaders

  • Trusted in-country partners

  • Detailed risk assessments and contingency planning

  • Emergency equipment (group shelters, satellite comms, medical kits)
Your safety is always our highest priority.

What happens in an emergency?
Your leader will manage the immediate response, supported by our in-country team and UK operations staff. We have evacuation plans for each expedition, including helicopter rescue where necessary.

Preparation & Training

Do I need to be super fit?
You need a good base level of fitness, but you don’t need to be an elite athlete. Training plans and advice are provided once you book, and our UK training weekend gives you a chance to prepare and build skills.

Do I need previous expedition experience?
No — most of our expeditions are designed for adventurous first-timers as well as seasoned travellers. Your leader will coach and support you throughout.

What’s the UK training weekend?
A two-day event (often in the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales) where you’ll:

  • Meet your leader and teammates

  • Practice navigation, campcraft, and first aid basics

  • Learn about your destination and expedition routines

  • Get to know the team dynamics before heading overseas

Its never compulsorary to attend, but highly advised!
